Pilates Mat Class
Pilates based work is designed to strengthen the spine primarily from the “pelvic neutral” position versus “flat back”. The neutral position indicates use of the 3 natural curves of the spine. Flat back indicates the “crunch” position.
Posture is re-taught with each class enabling greater understanding and execution of technique. Level of work can be modified based on individual skill, strength, ability, and energy on the day.
As a “feel good” form of movement, a Pilates Mat Class is a compliment to the REFORMER CLASS or valid on its own. The MAT CLASS can replace your work in the gym, or compliment it. You will strengthen and stretch on your back, belly, side, standing, jumping, sitting, etc. You will learn where your body is weak or strong, AND learn how to balance those differences while endeavoring to avoid pain. The theory of less is more is applied. Learn that work is 'good' and 'fun'.
Therapeutic Pilates based work designed by a physical therapist is a meaningful and supportive movement and process for MEN, WOMEN, ROCK CLIMBERS, SWIMMERS, DANCERS, GOLFERS, and ALL PEOPLE combining both the Eastern and Western philosophies of life.
The exercises are fun, preventive, and therapeutic in nature. Pilates based exercises increase overall strength, flexibility, balance, posture, improve breathing, range of motion, and massage, strengthen and help protect the spine.
Wear comfy clothing that easily moves with you, giving freedom of movement. Your feet will be bare.
Pilates indicates and encourages full flexion against full extension, without hyper-extension, in alignment, with stability, without force, and with grace. The Mat work is the foundation.
